The Turn Toward Pledge

Resilient communities are not built in moments of crisis alone. They are strengthened every day by neighbors who stay connected, even when they disagree.

As Utahns, we care deeply about family, service, and being good neighbors. We know that freedom and responsibility go hand in hand. The work of shaping a better future for the next generation belongs to all of us.

Avoiding conflict does not create peace. Learning how to navigate conflict well does.

When we turn toward each other — especially in moments of tension — we build the skills and relationships that prevent division from hardening into hostility or violence. We collectively become more comfortable with healthy conflict — when we learn to listen well, speak with dignity, and remain in relationship across differences.

I commit to:

  • Stay engaged with people whose views differ from mine.

  • Practice healthy disagreement in my home, workplace, faith community, and online.

  • Uphold the dignity and inherent worth of people across political and cultural lines.

  • Contribute my time and energy to efforts that strengthen community connection.

  • Look for common ground while de-escalating tensions and engaging honestly and respectfully about real differences.

When we choose connection over contempt, we build resilience — and make our communities safer, stronger, and more united.
