As citizens who have committed ourselves to bringing people together across differences, we believe that no one in Utah should fear for their safety while sharing their opinions and beliefs. Everyone has the right to freedom of speech and the right to exercise that freedom – even if we disagree with what they are saying.

Recognizing that communities around the nation and world have also suffered terribly from the effects of violence,  Utah is our home. Neighbors may disagree on matters of the heart and mind, but especially in times like this we need to turn toward each other and remember that we belong to each other.

We stand with those who are overwhelmed by the weight of the current moment, and we say there is another way. Collectively, we have worked across the country to navigate difficult conversations and bridge deep divides in challenging times. Our experience demonstrates that even small steps taken by one person can make a difference. It can feel daunting in this dark time, but  it can be done. With courage and empathy, we can walk this road together.
